Have You Bean There? A Journey Through Coffee Origins

Coffee doesn’t just come from “somewhere far away.”
It grows in very specific parts of the world, each with its own climate, altitude, soil, and culture. All of these shape how your coffee tastes.
So… have you bean there?
Let’s take a little trip.
The Coffee Belt
Coffee grows in what’s called the Coffee Belt, a region around the equator between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.
This includes parts of South America, Africa, and Asia. Warm temperatures, high altitudes, and distinct wet and dry seasons create the perfect conditions for coffee to grow and develop complex flavors.
But not all origins are the same. Not even close.
Central & South America: Balanced, sweet, and endlessly comforting
This is where I personally feel most at home.
Countries like Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, Panama and Costa Rica produce coffees that are often beautifully balanced. Think chocolate, caramel, nuts, soft fruit, and a clean, rounded finish.
These are the coffees I come back to again and again. They’re approachable, comforting, and incredibly versatile, but still full of character when you pay attention.
If you’ve had coffee at Bean There Co., there’s a good chance… you’ve bean there.
Africa: Bright, expressive, unforgettable
Let’s talk about where coffee’s story began.
Countries like Ethiopia and Kenya are known for vibrant, fruit-forward coffees. Think citrus, berries, florals, sometimes even tea-like textures.
And yes… I will say it.
I bless the rains down in Africa. ☕
Asia: Deep, bold, and evolving
Now moving east.
Indonesia, especially Java, has been producing coffee for centuries. Coffees from this region are often fuller-bodied, earthy, sometimes spicy, with a long, lingering finish.
Then there are places you might not expect.
China is an emerging origin, with regions like Yunnan producing clean, balanced coffees with soft fruit and chocolate notes.
Myanmar is another one to watch. Over the past years, producers there have been refining processing techniques, resulting in coffees that are bright, sweet, and surprisingly complex.
Maybe you haven’t bean there… yet.
Why origin matters
Origin is one of the biggest factors influencing flavor.
The same variety of coffee plant can taste completely different depending on where it’s grown. Altitude, soil composition, processing methods, and even local traditions all play a role.
It’s what makes coffee so endlessly interesting.
At Bean There Co.
At Bean There Co., I focus on coffees that tell a story. Sometimes it’s a classic origin you know and love, sometimes it’s something unexpected.
But every coffee on the bar has been chosen with intention.
Because great coffee isn’t just about how it’s brewed.
It’s about where it comes from.
So next time you take a sip, ask yourself:
Have you bean there?
